Welcome to Little Hands Playschool. We are happy that you have chosen to
visit and consider us for your child care needs. The following are a few
commonly asked questions to help you better understand our program.
When are you open? We are open M-F 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
What is a typical day like? As children arrive they are
served breakfast and have the opportunity to choose from many free-choice
activities. The mid morning includes circle and table time; when the kids can
use manipulatives, art or play with play-dough or other sensory experiences. At
10:00 am we have circle time, snack and then, weather permitting, we go
outside. If the weather does not allow us to go out we will do music or
movement activities inside. Lunch is served at 12:00 pm and then the children
have a quiet rest / nap time. Afternoon snack is served after the children
get-up. The late afternoons typically include lots of outdoor play.
The daily schedule is an invaluable part of the program. Not only does it
help the children feel safe and secure it allows them to develop increased
independence. The children help with many aspects of the daily program. This
gives them an increased sense of ownership and respect.
Do you provide meals? YES! We serve breakfast, lunch and 2
snacks per day. A typical lunch includes a protein, whole wheat grain, fresh
fruits and vegetables and a glass of milk. All meals are well balanced and
nutritious.
We believe that meal time is a learning time. Children are encouraged to try
new foods, talk about their day and use positive social skills.
How many children do you care for? We are licensed for 8
children but average 5 to 6 each day. We do not care for school-aged kids on a
regular basis so our maximum number of toddlers and preschoolers is 6 per day.
What are the ages of the children? The program is geared
for children 12 months to 4 years.
Do you take the children anywhere? We may walk to the park,
which is located at the end of our street. We also may have field-trips to the
places such as the pumpkin patch or local farmers market. For driving trips we
ask parents to accompany us.
How do you deal with discipline problems? We are dedicated
to the idea that the child does not need to feel worse in order to behave
better. Behavior improves as discouragement lessens. We use "I"
messages: "I can't let you...," "I can see that you are very angry."
No discipline that shames or belittles a child will be used.
How much do you charge? The base rate is $40.00 / full day ~ 3 or more days, $45 a day for 2 days.
I think this would be a good place for my child, what do I need to
do to enroll him? A registration fee of $75.00 is needed at time of
enrollment. After receiving the registration fee we will be able to give you a
packet that will have a variety of info including a handbook and forms that
will need to be filled out before your child can begin care.
Little Hands Playschool offers children opportunities to
make choices, explore, create and express themselves in a child-centered and
respectful environment. We look forward to meeting you and would like to remind
you to please use the side gate and path, to the left of the house.
